Depending on the type of structure (already smooth or fairly rough) and how straight the wall is, you can work with a thin finishing layer (5 mm - flat surface, for example) or with a thicker base layer + finishing layer (15 mm + 5 mm - for old bricks, straw, etc.). For thicker layers, you can order extra straw with your mix in order to work with thickened clay plaster, or with an intermediate net for reinforcement.

Yes, to obtain a perfect result we recommend working in two layers. You can use our brown clay plaster as a base (it is the most circular) and then finish with brown or choose another color (gray, white or red).

Clay plaster is not resistant to direct contact with water, so it cannot be used for splashbacks, showers or baths. However, you can use clay plaster for other walls in the bathroom or kitchen, where it will have a positive effect on the indoor climate (humidity,...).

Our clay plasters can be produced in a CO2-neutral way, and they have an ecological impact that is hundreds times lower (!) than gypsum plasters and cement plasters. Earth plaster can be integrally reused and is perfectly circular. In addition, clay plaster is 4 times more acoustic than gypsum plaster, offers thermal mass and has a strong humidity regulating effect in a room. 

Per ton Brusseleir costs 199 € excl VAT for brown & 315 € excl VAT for the other colors. This amounts to 3.15 € excl. VAT for brown and 5 € excl. VAT for the other colors per m2, on 10mm thickness. For the application, the contractor himself will probably let the price depend on the amount of square meters. Prices can vary from 40 €/m2 (very large areas, rough finish) to 90 €/m2 (small spaces, refined finish).

Rammed earth is a type of natural concrete, based on clay instead of cement, which can be used for floors, walls (structural & in some cases outdoors) as well as furniture pieces (stools, bar, counter,...), and which literally needs to be compacted, 'rammed', before use.

Samples can be used (non-load-bearing) in applications of minimum 8 cm thickness. If the sample is to be used structurally, we recommend a good stability study and a test prototype. With thicknesses of 35-60 cm it is possible to build very high, as in these examples (The Wall & Negenoord).

For a floor, the thickness can vary between 7 cm (minimum) & 13 cm. The structure of the building will obviously have to be able to support the weight (and impact of ramming when applied).

With a well designed roofing rammed earth can be used as an exterior wall. Lateral rain is not strong enough to structurally damage the wall. As for flooring, you cannot use a sample clay floor as an outdoor patio. If you choose to use a rammed earth floor indoors, it is best to finish it with a carnauba (or equivalent) wax, which makes the floor easy to maintain and clean. 

For rammed earth, unlike with concrete, you do not need to "bake" elements. The production at the BC materials site can be done in a C02-neutral way and also in the application no fossil energy is needed. Afterwards - after 30, 50,... years - all elements can be reused again, without chemical or energetic intervention. Rammed earth is perfectly circular.

The price for our rammed earth mixes varies from 245 € excl. VAT / ton (brown) to 320 € excl. VAT / ton (red, grey, white). You should count on 2.2 tons of material per m3. For the application in floor, a contractor will usually ask around 175 €- 300 € /m2 (depending on surface and type of finish). For an application in walls, which is even more complex and labor-intensive, the price goes up to 900-1000 € / m2.

Yes, with our compressed stabilized earth blocks you can build a residential project up to a two-storey + ground floor, depending on the design. More is possible, depending on the design. Brickette with lime stabilization offers 4-6 MPa and without stabilization at 2-4 MPa.

That’s 9cm (±3mm) x 29.5cm (±1mm) x 14cm (±1mm) - there's also an option of x 13 cm (± 1 mm). A half-brick wall is 14cm thick. A solid brick wall is 29.5cm thick. For non-load-bearing interior walls you can also use the clay bricks on their side: 9 cm thick. We also have larger blocks of 9 cm (±3mm) x 30 cm (±1mm) x 20 cm (±1mm).

The impact of a stabilized compressed earth block is 90% lower in C02 emissions, compared to a classic baked brick. For an unstabilized one, it can go up to 97%. The closer the production is to the final building site, the lower the total CO2 balance. In addition, there is a strong acoustic effect and good thermal mass that helps to regulate the fluctuation of temperature.  

Our compressed earth blocks are fully circular and can be fully reused within the production infrastructure to make new compressed earth blocks.

Thanks to an innovative production method, we have been able to lower our compressed earth block price from 1.9 per piece to 1.35 € (unstabilized), for a stabilized one 1,85 € . For a cubic meter we are talking about 311 €/m3 or material price (mortar included), stabilized with lime, and 270 €/m3 for non-stabilized blocks. The price of the mason is usually the normal market prices.

Normally, compressed earth blocks can only be used for interior walls or interior cavity walls, as they are vulnerable to moisture & rain. But they can be used for exterior walls if the roofing or roof above the wall extends far enough, to catch any kind of rainfall, so that the water cannot touch the walls (as in the "good boots - good hat" principle).

We have developed our own clay mortar to bond compressed earth blocks in a wall or structure. For stabilised earth blocks, you can use a stabilised (lime-reinforced) mortar.
